Overseeing CAS@NIST is a complicated process as CAS as there are generally around 1500 CAS experiences being undertaken at any one time, many of which are off the NIST campus. Therefore a team approach is needed to ensure CAS runs successfully. The CAS admin team (shown on the right) are the members of staff who facilitate understanding of CAS and oversee the effective implementation of CAS experiences, working directly with students, staff, CAS advisers and CAS supervisors. The CAS coordinator is responsible for reporting the progress of CAS students to the Diploma Programme coordinator. The CAS admin team are ultimately responsible for determining whether you have met the CAS learning outcomes at the end of the Diploma Programme Your CAS Advisor plays an important role as they are the ones who are your first point of contact with CAS. You will meet with them every 3rd cycle and part of this discussion will be based around CAS. They will also be the ones who who write a report comment on CAS for you. This year the Y12 CAS advisors are:
The Y13 CAS advisors are:
Your CAS Supervisors are the ones that directly supervise your individual CAS experiences. The CAS supervisor assists, offers guidance and oversees the students’ CAS experiences when needed. You need a supervisor for every experience and you must upload your supervisors signature to the front page of Managebac before any of your experiences can be approved. As a CAS student you are a vital part of the team. A key to your success in the CAS programme is your level of personal engagement, choice and enjoyment of CAS experiences. Throughout the Diploma Programme you need to undertake a variety of CAS experiences, ideally on a weekly basis, for a minimum of 18 months. At NIST you are required to engage in a minimum of 150 hours of CAS with at least 50 hours in each of the strands, creativity, activity and service. You must also undertake at least one CAS project with a minimum duration of one month. You must reflect on CAS experiences at significant moments throughout CAS and maintain a CAS portfolio on Managebac. Using evidence from your CAS portfolio, you need to demonstrate achievement of the seven CAS learning outcomes to the CAS admin teams satisfaction. |
